Give each Project member the lowest level of access they need. Workspace membership lets a person enter the workspace, while their Project role determines what they can do in a specific Project.

Project roles

Every Project has one owner. Other members can have Manage, Edit, or Read access.

Owner

The owner has full control of the Project. An owner can:
  • Edit Project details, branding, Sources, and artifacts
  • Invite members and change or remove their roles
  • Manage Project sharing
  • Transfer ownership to another person in the same workspace
  • Permanently delete the Project
An owner cannot leave the Project without transferring ownership first. After a transfer, the previous owner keeps access as a Manager.

Manage

A Manager can do everything an Editor can, and can also:
  • Invite people to the Project
  • Change member roles
  • Remove members
  • Re-send or revoke pending invitations
  • Manage Project sharing
A Manager cannot transfer ownership or delete the Project.

Edit

An Editor can update the Project’s content, including:
  • Project details and branding
  • Project Sources
  • Existing artifacts
  • New artifacts and analysis
An Editor cannot manage members, invitations, sharing, ownership, or Project deletion.

Read

A person with Read access can view the Project, its available artifacts, and its Sources. They cannot change Project content or settings. Editors and people with Read access can leave a Project from the Members area.

Invite a Project member

Owners and Managers can invite members:
  1. Open the Project’s settings.
  2. Open Members.
  3. Search for a person or enter their email address.
  4. Choose Read, Edit, or Manage access.
  5. Select Add.
The invitation remains pending until the invited person accepts it. During the current pilot, the person must already have an Athena account in the same workspace. Pending invitations expire after 14 days. An Owner or Manager can re-send an invitation to renew it or revoke it if access is no longer needed.

Change or remove access

Owners and Managers can change another member’s role from the Members area. They can also remove a member from the Project. Choose:
  • Read when someone only needs to review the work
  • Edit when someone contributes to Project content
  • Manage when someone also needs to administer members and sharing
Workspace membership and Project membership are separate. Removing someone from a Project removes access to that Project, but does not remove them from the workspace. Governance roles describe the initiative itself; they do not grant Athena access.
