Sources are the files and web pages you give Athena as reference material. Add research, plans, reports, interview material, or other useful context so you can find it again and use it when working on a Project.

Sources and Project work

A Source is reference material. A Project artifact is work you create or develop in Athena. For example:
  • A market report can be a Source.
  • A Value Proposition Canvas is a Project artifact.
  • A web page about a competitor can be a Source.
  • A generated presentation is a Project deliverable.
Keeping those roles separate makes it easier to know what to add as background information and what to develop as part of your Project.

What you can add

You can add:
  • Documents and text files
  • Spreadsheets and PDFs
  • JPG and PNG images
  • Web pages by pasting a URL
You can organize files and URLs into folders, preview supported text content, and remove Sources when they are no longer useful. See Upload and organize Sources for supported formats and organization options.

Choose the right Source location

Athena provides three Source locations:
  • Personal Sources are for your own reference across your Projects.
  • Project Sources belong to one Project and provide context for people who can access that Project.
  • Workspace Sources are shared across your workspace for common reference material.
The location you choose determines who can access the Source and which Project or workspace context it can support. Review Source scopes before adding material that contains confidential or restricted information.

How Athena uses Sources

After a Source is processed, Athena can use relevant content when responding in the appropriate context. A newly added Source may need time to become searchable, so it might appear in the Sources list before Athena can use it in a response. Learn more in What gets indexed. Only add material that you are allowed to store and share in the selected Source location. When in doubt, choose the narrowest scope that gives the right people access.
